How to Properly Size Your New Boiler

Sizing your boiler correctly is essential for an efficient and cost-effective heating system. An undersized boiler will struggle to heat your property, while an oversized one wastes energy and money. Heat loss calculations

Once you know the total heat load in kilowatts (kW), add a safety margin of around 25% to allow for aging insulation and heat losses through the boiler itself. This gives you the minimum boiler output rating you’ll need.

Model

When choosing a model, look for a modulating condensing boiler rated for your heat load plus the added safety margin. Avoid considerably oversizing, as excessive boiler cycling reduces efficiency. For larger properties, you may need to install multiple smaller boilers rather than one huge unit. This provides better turndown and modulating ability.
