What Difference Does a 1 Degree Thermostat Change Make?

While turning your thermostat down by 1 degree does make a small impact over the course of the year, bigger savings can be had with similarly small changes.

Make the changes for at least 8 hours

If you choose to make changes to your heating regime – whether that is by reducing the temperature by 1 degree or more; doing so for at least 8 hours per day is a must. The old tale of leaving your heating on low all day being cheaper than using it as needed is a myth. The best way to save money on your heating is to have 8 hours each day without the heating on or decreased by a significant amount (while you’re at work or sleeping is ideal).

Use a timer

Using a timer to ensure your heating turns off after use is a great way to save money. Such a simple device, with such huge benefits.

Consider a smart meter

If you are delayed, or don’t want the heating on for any reason, a smart meter is a brilliant tool to have at your disposal. From a simple app on your phone you can control the thermostat and whether or not your heating is on or off.
