Questions to Ask Before Getting a New Boiler Installed

So, you’re in the market for a new boiler and you’re getting quotes for style of boiler and installation. And while you might be in a hurry to move things along; don’t forget to ask these questions during the process. When getting a new boiler installed, it’s important to get it right!

New Boiler Questions for your installer

What energy saving measures can I / should I make?

UK legislation dictates that new boiler installations have at least one of the following: thermostats that compensate for load, smart heating controls, weather compensating thermostats or gas heat recovery via the flue.

When getting quotes for boiler replacement, talk to your potential engineers about which one or more could be right for you.

Where will the condensation pipes go?

Changes to these will be minimal if you are not changing the type of system being installed; but if you are, here are some things to consider. External pipes can freeze, so ask the question of your installer to ensure they are not outside; or if they are that they are insulated as per manufacturing instructions.

Also remember to check if the plume of condensate is in a bad position for neighbours; if it is, now is the time to get that adjusted.

Do I have hard water?

If you are in a hard water area, you may need a power flush before installing your new boiler. Installing a new boiler into a clogged system is asking for trouble; so always ensure your potential installers check the whole central heating system as part of their survey to quote.

Do I want any smart controls?

It’s important to decide this before you set out on your journey, as solutions may need to be made bespoke for your needs. Think ahead and save the hassle later.
